Requirements for the Hajj

Visitors to Saudi Arabia have to comply with the following requirements of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health regarding vaccination for Yellow Fever, Meningococcal Meningitis and Poliomyelitis.

Yellow Fever

Travellers arriving from countries known to be infected with Yellow Fever must have a valid vaccination certificate issued in accordance with International Health Regulations. This means, it must have been issued by an approved vaccination centre - the Doctorcall Travel Clinic is approved.

We can tell you which countries are currently listed as being infected by Yellow Fever or you can consult the World Health Organisation’s Weekly Epidemiological Record - see www.who.int/wer/en/

If you arrive without a valid certificate, you will be vaccinated on arrival and placed under strict surveillance for 6 days from the date of the vaccination or the last date of potential exposure to infection, whichever is earlier.

Meningococcal Meningitis

All visitors, from all over the world, arriving for the purpose of Umra (pilgrimage) or for seasonal work are required to have a certificate of vaccination against meningitis issued not more than 3 years and not less than 10 days before arrival

Adults and children over the age of 2 must have been vaccinated with quadrivalent Meningococcal Meningitis vaccination (serogroups A,C,Y and W135).

Children age 3 months to 2 years must have been given doses of the A vaccine with a 3-month interval between the two doses.

Polio

Proof of polio vaccination is required for infants and children up to 15 years of age.

Having the right vaccinations saves you from being refused entry at the airport, or given a compulsory vaccination and put in quarantine for 6 days.

Yellow fever and meningitis vaccinations are required for all visitors of any age.

Polio vaccinations are required for children up to 15.
